Fall and Summer 2022 SAGE Applications Open

Applications for Fall 2022 Biochem SAGE Peer Facilitators Now Open

The Biochemistry Department and the Academic Resource Center (ARC) are now accepting applications for SAGE peer facilitators for the Fall 2022 semester. Peer facilitators lead weekly small discussion groups with students in the class, reviewing course content, guiding students through problem-solving, and providing tips and advice on how to succeed. Peer facilitators also meet weekly with the course staff and ARC staff to prepare for sessions, and participate in professional development programs offered by the ARC. The expected time commitment is 4-5 hours a week.

Peer facilitators perfect their understanding of biochemical concepts while also gaining hands-on experience in teaching and mentoring. The position is an excellent opportunity for students preparing for the MCAT and medical admissions, as well as those planning careers in biomedical science.

Among the team of peer facilitators, we are also looking for one or two to serve as lead facilitators, who will have additional responsibilities in content preparation and program administration. The lead facilitator position is an excellent opportunity to gain experience leading a small team.

Applicants should have taken Biochem 301 at Duke, and should have a strong knowledge of the biochemistry content taught in the course. We welcome applicants with teaching and/or tutoring experience, but prior experience is not required.

We will begin reviewing applications on the 11th of May. Top candidates will be invited to interview later in the month of May.

Summer 2022 Peer Facilitator Opportunity

We are also interested in the possibility of hiring one additional peer facilitator for the upcoming summer course, which begins on the 11th of May. Applicants interested in being considered for the Summer 2022 course should complete the form as soon as possible, and specify interest in the summer opportunity in the comment field. Summer SAGE groups will meet in person on campus, so applicants must be planning to be on campus for the first half of the summer (11 May to 23 June). The expected time commitment is approximately 8 hrs per week. We will review submitted forms on a rolling basis and extend invitations for Zoom interviews in the very near future.
